L’Immoraliste - The Immoralist

• This book just irritated me. 
• Based on Gide’s personal experience of discovering his homosexuality while traveling in North Africa.  
• He gets tuberculosis his wife takes care of him.
• He gets better.
• Bangs little boys.
• Wife gets tuberculosis.
• Wife has a miscarriage. 
• He makes her travel all over even though she is sick.
• He analyzes how she looks.
• She dies.
• The End.

I've always wondered how sometimes when something really bad happens to a person, like a near death experience, it doesn't humble them.  Instead, they become selfish and judgmental.  I don't understand that.
